Oleksandra Lykova
|
I grew up in a port city known for its hedonistic summers and dark, lonely winters. The inhabitant of that city are eccentric, contradictory, charming and at times quite rude. Naturally, for me, painting and drawing became the most reasonable thing to do in such environment.
All throughout my artistic practice I’ve been inspired by everything that has a potential for theatricality. I mainly use oil paint and occasionally dry media to depict characters that are synthesis of everyday encounters, experiences, dreams, traumas, longings and obsessions. Based in Montreal, QC, Oleksandra’s wide ranging practice encompasses painting as well as costume and set design for theatre, opera and film. She received BFA in Studio Arts from Concordia University in 2013 and in 2016 completed a 3 year Scenography program at the National Theatre School of Canada. |
