Jean Marcel Dumontier
Jean Marcel Dumontier is a native Montreal artist, living and working in his studio in Ste-Adèle. Born in 1964, he is the son of the renowned architect of the Montreal subway, Jean Dumontier. His father having also been an artist, Jean Marcel grew up surrounded by Ferron, Mousseau, Pellan, Lanctôt, Daudelin and other family friends who introduced him to visual art and inspired his creative process. Having picked up his paintbrushes at the age of five, Jean Marcel went on to study art and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from UQAM.
With more than thirty-four solo and group exhibitions to his credit, Jean Marcel Dumontier's paintings can be found in many private collections in Canada, the United States, Europe and Asia. Some of his works are also part of the permanent collection of the Musée d'Art contemporain des Laurentides. |
Artistic approach
Also an accomplished skier, Jean Marcel finds his inspiration in nature. Paradoxically, his artistic research turns towards experimentation with materials created by human beings. He is fascinated by the chemical reaction of products such as tar, metal or industrial paint, Indian ink, coffee, wine. The spontaneity, the impulse and the power of creative energy, the symbolism of the circle or the sphere - often in red - are omnipresent in the work of Jean Marcel. This last symbol represents the force and energy of human life (fertility, passage of time, circle of life) in relation to the nature in which the human being exists and evolves (planet Earth, sun, moon, stars).
